A new online community needed a way to self-regulate
The Voice digital platform was growing a user base, but its users had no way to push back on content that wasn’t abiding by it’s self-created culture. The Voice premise was a self-regulation and keeping the power in the hands of its content creators. Our team wanted to introduce a content regulation mechanism that was user-centered, and also aligned with our company mission and values.
Customer insights
Users wanted a sense of agency, empowered, and community
- Voice users were apprehensive about reporting other people’s content as offensive, and wanted to feel reassured and empowered about doing so
- Users wanted to feel a sense of community even when there was a capability to report someone else’s content
A new online community needed a way to self-regulate
Our team created a self-reporting functionality for posted content on the Voice platform, with language that leaned on the company values of community sourcing. This language was applied throughout each step of the experience, focusing on encouraging users to voice their opinion about content they may disagree with, and creating an experience of safety and support.
